Use-after-free in S/MIME decryption during a security device password prompt
When Thunderbird asked for a security device password (for example a smartcard PIN or the Primary Password) while decrypting an S/MIME message, the message load could finish or be cancelled while the prompt was open. This freed the message decoder while it was still in use, causing a use-after-free and a potentially exploitable crash. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 158.0.1.

Uninitialized memory disclosure and out-of-bounds read in POP3 and SMTP NTLM authentication
When authenticating to a POP3 or SMTP server using NTLM, Thunderbird did not check whether the server's challenge was valid base64. A malicious server could send a challenge that caused Thunderbird to include uninitialized heap memory in its NTLM response, disclosing that memory to the server. A challenge consisting only of base64 padding also caused an out-of-bounds read, crashing Thunderbird. This affected accounts configured to use NTLM or GSSAPI authentication. The uninitialized memory disclosure only affected NTLM. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 158.0.1 and Thunderbird 153.5.1.
Thunderbird did not escape attribute values when serializing outgoing XMPP stanzas. Because values from incoming requests were echoed back in automatic replies, a remote XMPP user could send a crafted request that caused Thunderbird to inject arbitrary stanzas into the user's connection, which the server would then process as if sent by the user. This could be used to send messages or change contact and subscription settings on behalf of the user, without any interaction. This bug only affects Thunderbird's chat feature with XMPP accounts. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 158.0.1 and Thunderbird 153.5.1.

Account password sent unencrypted during Exchange account setup
When setting up an account, Thunderbird's Exchange AutoDiscover lookup also queried the domain's AutoDiscover service over plain HTTP. Due to a bug, that unencrypted request included the credentials the user had entered, allowing a network attacker to obtain the user's password. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 158.0.1 and Thunderbird 153.5.1.
A malicious, compromised, or MITM-controlled Exchange server can return a single well-formed SOAP response containing an element with enough attributes to keep Thunderbird's main thread CPU-bound for seconds to hours. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 158 and Thunderbird 153.5.
Integer overflow in libmime buffer growth could lead to heap corruption
Several buffer-growth sites in libmime performed size arithmetic in 32-bit types without overflow checks. On a sufficiently large message the growth guard could fail open, or the buffer could be reallocated smaller than required, and a subsequent memcpy would then write attacker-controlled data across adjacent heap allocations. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 158.

Heap buffer overflow opening large email
An attacker could cause a heap buffer overflow by getting a user to open an email that is greater than or equal to 2GB in size. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 157, Thunderbird 140.17, and Thunderbird 153.4.
Allowed UNC hostnames for attachments interpreted as a regular expression
The values of the mail.allowed_attachment_hostnames advanced config setting were used in a regular expression without escaping. For some possible valid hostnames, this could allow certain unintended hostnames to also match and serve remote attachments. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 155 and Thunderbird 153.2.
Information disclosure due to malicious IMAP server response
A malicious IMAP server can trigger use-after-free and heap-memory disclosure by sending a crafted ID response. Heap contents can ultimately be persisted to prefs.js. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 155, Thunderbird 140.15, and Thunderbird 153.2.
A maliciously constructed mail header could lead to a one byte read past the end of a buffer. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 155, Thunderbird 140.15, and Thunderbird 153.2.
Triggering an error condition in certain MIME bodies would cause uninitialized memory to be used. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 155, Thunderbird 140.15, and Thunderbird 153.2.
Calendar invitation attachments could launch local executables
Malicious calendar invitations could use file URI attachments to launch local or network-hosted executables on Windows, bypassing Thunderbird's normal executable attachment protections. With the new invitation display enabled, the attachment could also appear under a misleading filename. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 154 and Thunderbird 153.2.
Off-by-one out of bounds read in MIME header parser for forwarding
The code to parse MIME headers for display when forwarding a message (if the setting to view all headers was enabled) had an off-by-one error, allowing a single byte to be read from the memory after the buffer for the headers, and potentially crashing Thunderbird. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 153 and Thunderbird 140.13.

Chat UI manipulation by injection
An attacker who can send HTML chat messages (via Matrix or XMPP) can inject arbitrary styled content, phishing links, and CSS that manipulates the chat UI. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 152.0.1 and Thunderbird 140.12.1.

Denial-of-service via malicious LDAP address-book server
A malicious LDAP server, which a Thunderbird user is configured to query for address-book autocomplete, can stash arbitrarily large amounts of attacker-supplied data into the Thunderbird LDAP client until it crashes due to memory exhaustion. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 152.0.1 and Thunderbird 140.12.1.

Use after free in libwebp
There exists a use after free/double free in libwebp. An attacker can use the ApplyFiltersAndEncode() function and loop through to free best.bw and assign best = trial pointer. The second loop will then return 0 because of an Out of memory error in VP8 encoder, the pointer is still assigned to trial and the AddressSanitizer will attempt a double free.
In libexpat through 2.4.9, there is a use-after free caused by overeager destruction of a shared DTD in XML_ExternalEntityParserCreate in out-of-memory situations.
