Strawberry GraphQL: Synchronous permission checks can treat an awaitable authorization result as truthy

Strawberry GraphQL is a library for creating GraphQL APIs. From 0.217.0 until 0.326.1, PermissionExtension.resolve() on a synchronous field resolver evaluates the result of has_permission() for truthiness. When a custom permission declares has_permission() as a normal function but returns an awaitable, supports_sync does not classify it as asynchronous, the awaitable is not awaited, and its inherently truthy object value permits the protected resolver to run even when the result would resolve to false. This affects synchronous field resolvers under both execute_sync() and execute(); permissions declared with async def has_permission() and syn

Strawberry legacy graphql-ws retains naturally completed subscription slots

Strawberry GraphQL is a library for creating GraphQL APIs. From 0.312.3 until 0.327.2, the legacy graphql-ws subscription handler in strawberry/subscriptions/protocols/graphql_ws/handlers.py does not remove naturally completed operations from self.tasks and self.subscriptions. When max_subscriptions_per_connection is configured, a client on a persistent WebSocket connection can use distinct operation IDs for one-shot subscriptions to fill the connection's configured slots even after those subscriptions send complete, causing later legitimate operations on that connection to be rejected with Subscription limit reached. The modern graphql-trans

Strawberry GraphQL's Bypass of MaxAliasesLimiter via Fragment Spreads leading to GraphQL Alias Amplification

Strawberry GraphQL is a library for creating GraphQL APIs. In versions 0.172.0 through0.315.6, the MaxAliasesLimiter extension in Strawberry fails to account for the multiplicative/amplification effect of FragmentSpreadNode. While it correctly counts static aliases within the AST it does not consider how many times a fragments internal aliases are expanded during execution. this allows an attacker to bypass alias limits and force the server to resolve and render a significantly higher number of aliases than allowed, potentially leading to a dos via resource exhaustion. Version 0.315.7 contains a fix for the issue.

Strawberry GraphQL: Default GraphiQL may expose HTTP headers in URLs

Strawberry GraphQL is a library for creating GraphQL APIs. In versions 0.288.4 through 0.315.3, Strawberry's bundled GraphiQL template wrote values from the GraphiQL headers editor into the browser URL query string. If a user entered a sensitive header, such as `Authorization: Bearer <token>`, the value could become visible in browser history, copied links, and server/proxy/CDN access logs after a page reload or shared request. Version 0.315.4 patches the issue.

Strawberry GraphQL has a Circular Fragment Reference DOS

Strawberry GraphQL is a library for creating GraphQL APIs. In versions 0.71.0 through 0.315.6, the QueryDepthLimiter extension is vulnerable to an Application-level DOS due to a lack of cycle detection in fragment spreads. When a query contains circular fragment references the determine_depth function enters an infinite recursion, leading to a RecursionError and crashing the validation process. Version 0.315.7 patches the issue.

Authentication bypass in strawberry-graphql via legacy graphql-ws WebSocket subprotocol

Strawberry GraphQL is a library for creating GraphQL APIs. Strawberry up until version 0.312.3 is vulnerable to an authentication bypass on WebSocket subscription endpoints. The legacy graphql-ws subprotocol handler does not verify that a connection_init handshake has been completed before processing start (subscription) messages. This allows a remote attacker to skip the on_ws_connect authentication hook entirely by connecting with the graphql-ws subprotocol and sending a start message directly, without ever sending connection_init. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.312.3.

Strawberry GraphQL affected by a Denial of Service via unbounded WebSocket subscriptions

Strawberry GraphQL is a library for creating GraphQL APIs. Prior to 0.312.3, Strawberry GraphQL's WebSocket subscription handlers for both the graphql-transport-ws and legacy graphql-ws protocols allocate an asyncio.Task and associated Operation object for every incoming subscribe message without enforcing any limit on the number of active subscriptions per connection. An unauthenticated attacker can open a single WebSocket connection, send connection_init, and then flood subscribe messages with unique IDs. Each message unconditionally spawns a new asyncio.Task and async generator, causing linear memory growth and event loop saturation. This

Strawberry GraphQL has a type resolution vulnerability

Strawberry GraphQL is a library for creating GraphQL APIs. Starting in 0.182.0 and prior to version 0.257.0, a type confusion vulnerability exists in Strawberry GraphQL's relay integration that affects multiple ORM integrations (Django, SQLAlchemy, Pydantic). The vulnerability occurs when multiple GraphQL types are mapped to the same underlying model while using the relay node interface. When querying for a specific type using the global node field (e.g., FruitType:some-id), the resolver may incorrectly return an instance of a different type mapped to the same model (e.g., SpecialFruitType). This can lead to information disclosure if the alte

Strawberry GraphQL Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) vulnerability

Strawberry GraphQL is a library for creating GraphQL APIs. Prior to version 0.243.0, multipart file upload support as defined in the GraphQL multipart request specification was enabled by default in all Strawberry HTTP view integrations. This made all Strawberry HTTP view integrations vulnerable to cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks if users did not explicitly enable CSRF preventing security mechanism for their servers. Additionally, the Django HTTP view integration, in particular, had an exemption for Django's built-in CSRF protection (i.e., the `CsrfViewMiddleware` middleware) by default. In affect, all Strawberry integrations were v
