  1. CVE-2026-101894

Critical · CVSS 9.1EPSS 0.81%Public exploitNo fix published

@xhmikosr/decompress: Path traversal via symlink chain

The decompress package for Node.js extracts archives. Prior to 10.2.2 and 11.1.4, the default decompress(input, output) API relies on lexical containment checks that do not account for the kernel following a planted symlink chain. An attacker can supply a crafted archive containing chained symlink entries so that a later entry resolves outside the output directory. This allows files outside output to be read or written, and overwriting startup scripts or configuration can lead to remote code execution. The maintained @xhmikosr/decompress package is fixed in 10.2.2 and 11.1.4, but the separately affected unmaintained decompress package remains

Critical · CVSS 9.1EPSS 0.75%Public exploitNo fix published

decompress: Archive extraction can create files and links outside the target directory

The decompress package for Node.js extracts archives. Prior to 10.2.1 and 11.1.3, archive extraction can create files and links outside the target directory. When extracting an archive to a directory, a crafted archive can read or write files outside that directory because hardlink and symlink entries are created without checking where targets point, path containment used a string prefix comparison, and file modes failed to remove setuid, setgid, or sticky bits. This issue is fixed in @xhmikosr/decompress versions 10.2.1 and 11.1.3.

    Medium · CVSS 5.5EPSS 0.3%No fix published

    CVE-2026-39243

decompress before 4.2.2 allows arbitrary hardlink creation during archive extraction, enabling file read disclosure and file corruption. When processing hardlink entries (type === 'link'), the x.linkname field from the archive is passed directly to fs.link() without validation (index.js line 113). An attacker can craft an archive with a hardlink entry whose linkname is an absolute path to any file on the same filesystem. This creates a hardlink inside the extraction directory that shares the same inode as the target file, enabling both reading and overwriting the original file's content. Hardlinks are limited to files on the same filesystem a

  4. CVE-2026-10732

    Medium · CVSS 6.1EPSS 0.52%No fix published

    CVE-2026-10732

All versions of the package decompress are vulnerable to Arbitrary File Write via Archive Extraction (Zip Slip) when extracting a ZIP archive containing two entries with the same path - the first being a symlink to an arbitrary target and the second being a regular file - the file content is written through the symlink to the target location outside the output directory. This is due to the microtask processing order that checks readlink for the second file before resolving symlink for the first file. An attacker can write arbitrary file on the host filesystem potentially leading to remote code execution by providing a specially crafted ZIP ar
