Malicious code in guardrails-ai 0.10.1 (supply chain compromise)

Guardrails AI is a Python framework that helps build AI applications. On May 11, 2026 at approximately 6:00 PM Pacific, an attacker published a malicious version of `guardrails-ai` (0.10.1) to PyPI. Aany user who installed `guardrails-ai==0.10.1` from PyPI on May 11, 2026 may be affected. Security researchers identified the malicious package within approximately 2 hours of publication, and PyPI quarantined the repository. 2. CVE-2026-31233

    Critical · CVSS 9.8EPSS 0.64%No fix published

    CVE-2026-31233

Guardrails AI thru 0.6.7 contains a code injection vulnerability (CWE-94) in its Hub package installation mechanism. When installing validator packages via guardrails hub install, the system retrieves a manifest from the Guardrails Hub and dynamically executes a script specified in the post_install field. The script path is constructed from untrusted manifest data and executed without proper validation or sanitization, allowing remote code execution. An attacker who can publish malicious packages to the Hub can inject arbitrary code that will be executed on any system where a victim installs the malicious package.

    CVE-2024-45858

An arbitrary code execution vulnerability exists in versions 0.2.9 up to 0.5.10 of the Guardrails AI Guardrails framework because of the way it validates XML files. XXE in Guardrails AI when consuming RAIL documents

RAIL documents are an XML-based format invented by Guardrails AI to enforce formatting checks on LLM outputs. Guardrails users that consume RAIL documents from external sources are vulnerable to XXE, which may cause leakage of internal file data via the SYSTEM entity.
