Litestar: AllowedHostsMiddleware bypasses host validation via client-controlled X-Forwarded-Host header

Litestar is an Asynchronous Server Gateway Interface (ASGI) framework. In versions prior to 2.22.0, an attacker can bypass the allowed hosts validation by omitting the Host header and supplying an X-Forwarded-Host header set to a whitelisted domain. The AllowedHostsMiddleware trusts the X-Forwarded-Host header as a fallback when the Host header is absent. Since X-Forwarded-Host is a client-controllable header, this enables host header injection attacks such as password reset poisoning, cache poisoning, and server-side request routing manipulation. Any application using AllowedHostsConfig is affected when deployed without a reverse proxy that

Litestar: HTML Injection Through CSRF Token

Litestar is an Asynchronous Server Gateway Interface (ASGI) framework. Prior to version 2.20.0, Litestar instances which use a template engine in conjunction with CSRF protection are vulnerable to HTML Injection which can be escalated to Cross Site Scripting due to the contents of the CSRF cookie being excluded from automatic escaping by the template engine when configured inline with documentation recommendations. This issue has been patched in version 2.20.0.

FileStore key canonicalization collisions allow response cache mixup/poisoning (ASCII ord + Unicode NFKD)

Litestar is an Asynchronous Server Gateway Interface (ASGI) framework. Prior to 2.20.0, FileStore maps cache keys to filenames using Unicode NFKD normalization and ord() substitution without separators, creating key collisions. When FileStore is used as response-cache backend, an unauthenticated remote attacker can trigger cache key collisions via crafted paths, causing one URL to serve cached responses of another (cache poisoning/mixup). This vulnerability is fixed in 2.20.0.

Litestar has an AllowedHosts validation bypass due to unescaped regex metacharacters in configured host patterns

Litestar is an Asynchronous Server Gateway Interface (ASGI) framework. Prior to 2.20.0, in litestar.middleware.allowed_hosts, allowlist entries are compiled into regex patterns in a way that allows regex metacharacters to retain special meaning (e.g., . matches any character). This enables a bypass where an attacker supplies a host that matches the regex but is not the intended literal hostname. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.20.0.

Litestar has a CORS origin allowlist bypass due to unescaped regex metacharacters in allowed origins

Litestar is an Asynchronous Server Gateway Interface (ASGI) framework. Prior to 2.20.0, CORSConfig.allowed_origins_regex is constructed using a regex built from configured allowlist values and used with fullmatch() for validation. Because metacharacters are not escaped, a malicious origin can match unexpectedly. The check relies on allowed_origins_regex.fullmatch(origin). This vulnerability is fixed in 2.20.0.

X-Forwarded-For Header Spoofing Bypasses Litestar Rate Limiting

Litestar is an Asynchronous Server Gateway Interface (ASGI) framework. In version 2.17.0, rate limits can be completely bypassed by manipulating the X-Forwarded-For header. This renders IP-based rate limiting ineffective against determined attackers. Litestar's RateLimitMiddleware uses `cache_key_from_request()` to generate cache keys for rate limiting. When an X-Forwarded-For header is present, the middleware trusts it unconditionally and uses its value as part of the client identifier. Since clients can set arbitrary X-Forwarded-For values, each different spoofed IP creates a separate rate limit bucket. An attacker can rotate through differ

Litestar has potential log injection in exception logging

    ### Summary Litestar does not escape url paths when logging exceptions. This makes logger vulnerable to CRLF injection if logging level is configured to debug or `log_exceptions` is set to "always", which allows attackers to inject newlines and forge log entries. ### Details Litestar directly formats unquoted path into exception logs without validation or escaping when using default exception logging handler. https://github.com/litestar-org/litestar/blob/1e0dc7c4d67151c836208a3e360051e983b5083a/litestar/logging/config.py#L145-L150 Attackers can inject newlines in logs by embedding`%0d%0a` in url path. `log_exceptions="always"` is not en

Litestar allows unbounded resource consumption (DoS vulnerability)

Litestar is an Asynchronous Server Gateway Interface (ASGI) framework. Prior to version 2.13.0, the multipart form parser shipped with litestar expects the entire request body as a single byte string and there is no default limit for the total size of the request body. This allows an attacker to upload arbitrary large files wrapped in a `multipart/form-data` request and cause excessive memory consumption on the server. The multipart form parser in affected versions is vulnerable to this type of attack by design. The public method signature as well as its implementation both expect the entire request body to be available as a single byte strin

Litestar and Starlite affected by Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')

Litestar and Starlite is an Asynchronous Server Gateway Interface (ASGI) framework. Prior to 2.8.3, 2.7.2, and 2.6.4, a Local File Inclusion (LFI) vulnerability has been discovered in the static file serving component of LiteStar. This vulnerability allows attackers to exploit path traversal flaws, enabling unauthorized access to sensitive files outside the designated directories. Such access can lead to the disclosure of sensitive information or potentially compromise the server. The vulnerability is located in the file path handling mechanism within the static content serving function, specifically at `litestar/static_files/base.py`. This v
