389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: null pointer dereference via modifydn using an attribute's schema alias name causes denial of service

A NULL pointer dereference flaw was found in 389-ds-base. This flaw occurs when a ModifyDN (rename) operation uses an attribute's schema alias name (such as "commonName") instead of its canonical name (such as "cn") as the new relative distinguished name. An authenticated attacker with the ModifyDN (rename) permission on the affected entry can use this flaw to crash the directory server, causing a denial of service.

    Critical · CVSS 9EPSS 0.38%No fix published

389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: starttls plaintext-buffer retention allows on-path attacker to forge an ldap client's authentication result

A flaw was found in 389-ds-base. The server does not discard plaintext bytes already buffered from a client connection when negotiating StartTLS, allowing an on-path attacker to inject a crafted LDAP message that is processed after the TLS upgrade and whose response is delivered to the client in place of the client's own pending operation's response, due to messageID collision. This can cause a client application to treat a failed authentication (bind) attempt as successful.

    389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: unauthenticated worker-thread-pool exhaustion via completed-operation-then-incomplete-pdu connection requeue

A flaw was found in 389-ds-base. An unauthenticated remote attacker can send a complete LDAP operation followed by the first bytes of an incomplete LDAPMessage on the same connection, causing the server to hand that connection to a second worker thread before the first worker's result is flushed. The second worker blocks until nsslapd-ioblocktimeout while holding the connection mutex, preventing delivery of the completed operation's result. Repeating this across a small number of connections proportional to the configured worker-thread pool size exhausts the entire pool under default configuration, denying service to all clients (anonymous an

389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: command injection via unescaped ldap dn in cockpit 389 console ldap editor

A flaw was found in 389-ds-base. The Cockpit 389 Console's LDAP editor constructs an ldapsearch command by embedding an LDAP entry's distinguished name (DN) into a shell command string without proper escaping. An LDAP user with delegated privileges to create or rename directory entries could craft a malicious DN containing shell metacharacters. When a Cockpit administrator subsequently views the entry in the 389 Console, the embedded shell command executes with root privileges on the directory server host.

389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: sasl plain authentication allows privilege escalation to directory manager via stale identity in cyrus sasl auxiliary property

A flaw was found in 389 Directory Server. During SASL PLAIN authentication, a stale identity carried in a Cyrus SASL auxiliary property from a prior failed bind attempt can be installed on a connection following a subsequent, unrelated successful bind, regardless of which SASL mechanism completes that second bind. An attacker can send a SASL PLAIN bind as cn=Directory Manager with an incorrect password, then complete a SASL ANONYMOUS bind on the same connection, causing the server to grant Directory Manager authority without any valid credentials. A variant using a valid low-privileged account's own successful bind instead of an anonymous one

389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: pre-authentication null pointer dereference via paged results and use_one_backend control in op_shared_search

A flaw was found in 389 Directory Server. A missing NULL pointer check in the paged results handling of op_shared_search allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to crash the LDAP server by sending a crafted sequence of search requests using the USE_ONE_BACKEND control, resulting in denial of service.

389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: heap buffer overflow via sasl wrapped-record length lower-bound underflow in sasl_io_start_packet()

A heap buffer overflow flaw was found in the SASL I/O layer of 389 Directory Server (389-ds-base). In sasl_io_start_packet(), the wrapped-record length read from the wire is validated only against an upper bound. A small wire length (0, 1, or 2) produces an encrypted_buffer_count below the already-consumed encrypted_buffer_offset, causing an unsigned subtraction underflow in sasl_io_read_packet(). PR_Recv is then requested to read approximately 4 GiB into a 1024-byte heap buffer, resulting in a heap buffer overflow with attacker-controlled content. After a successful SASL bind with integrity protection (SSF > 0), a remote authenticated attack

389-ds-base: 389-ds: anonymous ldap client can defeat selfdn aci bind-rule checks via empty bind dn

A flaw was found in 389 Directory Server. The SELFDN ACI bind-rule evaluator incorrectly matches an anonymous LDAP client's empty bind DN against an empty stored attribute value, allowing an unauthenticated client to satisfy access control checks intended to require a matching authenticated identity. This can allow an anonymous LDAP client to perform an operation, such as adding or modifying a directory entry, that a SELFDN-based ACI intended to restrict to a specific authenticated user.

    389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: cve-2026-11610 incomplete fix may introduce a connection-stall dos

A flaw was found in 389-ds-base. A remote, authenticated attacker could exploit a vulnerability in the Simple Authentication and Security Layer (SASL) UNBIND process. By sending a specially crafted request, the attacker can cause a connection to stall, leading to resource exhaustion and a Denial of Service (DoS) for the server.

    389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: pre-authentication double-free in get_ldapmessage_controls_ext() via critical session tracking control

A flaw was found in 389-ds-base. The get_ldapmessage_controls_ext() function frees the parsed controls array on the Session Tracking critical-control rejection path without clearing the SLAPI_REQCONTROLS pblock slot. Operation teardown then frees the same pointer again, causing a double-free. An unauthenticated remote attacker can trigger this with a single BIND request carrying a critical Session Tracking control, resulting in heap corruption and potential denial of service.

389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: missing authorization allows anonymous clients to start or abort cleanallruv replication maintenance

A flaw was found in 389 Directory Server. The CleanAllRUV and Abort CleanAllRUV replication-maintenance extended operations perform no authorization check, allowing an unauthenticated remote attacker to invoke them when nsslapd-allow-anonymous-access is enabled (the default), or any authenticated low-privilege user to invoke them otherwise. This allows removal of a replica ID from replication metadata, purging of changelog records, and interruption of administrator-initiated cleanup, which can leave replication inconsistent or unavailable.

389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: sasl plain bind installs connection credentials before account-lock check, allowing continued access as a locked account

A flaw was found in 389 Directory Server. During SASL PLAIN authentication, the server installs connection-level bind credentials before performing the account-lock check. If the account is subsequently found to be locked, the bind is reported as failed to the client, but the already-installed authenticated state on the connection is not reverted. A client that supplies valid credentials for an account that has been administratively locked can continue to use the same connection with that account's privileges, defeating account lock as an access-revocation control.

389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: pre-auth ldap filter injection in cleanallruv status check

A flaw was found in 389 Directory Server. An unauthenticated remote attacker can inject LDAP search filters into the CleanAllRUV replication status-check extended operation. Because the handler performs the search against cn=config with elevated replication plugin privileges and returns a boolean match result, the attacker can extract sensitive server configuration metadata, including replication bind DNs and password storage scheme information.

389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: pre-authentication stack buffer overflow in get_ruvelement_from_berval() via unbounded replica id parsing

A stack buffer overflow flaw was found in 389 Directory Server (389-ds-base). The get_ruvelement_from_berval() function in repl5_ruv.c copies digit characters from a network-supplied RUV berval into a fixed 16-byte stack buffer without bounds checking. A remote unauthenticated attacker can crash the LDAP server by sending a crafted StartNSDS50ReplicationRequest extended operation containing a replica ID field with more than 16 digit characters. The overflow occurs during payload decoding, before any authorization check. Stack protectors limit impact to denial of service.

    389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: heap-buffer-overflow in rdn_av_swap on quoted multivalued rdn

A heap-buffer-overflow flaw was found in Directory Server (389-ds-base). When a DN contains a legacy-quoted value, the server won't close the heap allocation allowing another call to refer to the same memory pointer causing a denial of service or an arbitrary memory write operation.

    389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: non-constant-time comparison in pbkdf2-sha256 password verification

A flaw was found in 389 Directory Server. The PBKDF2-SHA256 password verification function uses standard memcmp() for comparing password hashes instead of a constant-time comparison function. A remote attacker could potentially use timing measurements of LDAP bind attempts to infer partial hash information, though practical exploitation is extremely difficult due to PBKDF2 computational overhead.

389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: static initialization vector in aes-cbc/3des-cbc attribute encryption

A flaw was found in 389-ds-base where the LDBM backend attribute encryption uses a hardcoded static initialization vector for AES-CBC and 3DES-CBC operations, allowing an attacker with privileged filesystem access to detect plaintext equality across encrypted entries by comparing ciphertext blocks.

389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: heap-buffer-overflow in dn normalization via quoted multivalued rdn

A heap-buffer-overflow flaw was found in 389 Directory Server (389-ds-base). When normalizing a Distinguished Name (DN) that contains a legacy-quoted value encoding a multivalued nested Relative Distinguished Name (RDN), the server can write past the end of a heap allocation while sorting RDN attribute-value pairs. An unauthenticated remote attacker can trigger this condition by sending an LDAP operation whose DN reaches the DN normalization routine, such as a search with a crafted base DN. This can corrupt heap memory and may cause denial of service.

389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: heap buffer overflow in sasl_io_recv() via padded sasl unbind

A heap buffer overflow flaw was found in the SASL I/O layer of 389 Directory Server (389-ds-base). After a successful SASL bind with integrity protection (SSF > 0), an authenticated attacker can send a specially crafted oversized LDAP UNBIND packet that is copied into a 512-byte heap receive buffer without a bounds check in sasl_io_recv() in sasl_io.c. This allows up to approximately 2 megabytes of attacker-controlled data to overflow the buffer, causing a denial of service (server crash). In FreeIPA and Red Hat Identity Management deployments, any domain user with a valid Kerberos ticket, any enrolled host, or any service account can trigger

    389-ds-base: 389-ds-base: use-after-free in schema reload via attr_syntax_swap_ht()

A flaw was found in 389 Directory Server. During schema reload, the attr_syntax_swap_ht() function unconditionally frees attribute syntax information nodes, bypassing the refcount-based deferred deletion used elsewhere in the attribute syntax subsystem. If an administrator triggers schema reload while concurrent LDAP query traffic is active, worker threads may access freed memory, resulting in use-after-free or double-free and a denial of service (server crash).
