SimpleSAMLphp SAML2: Possible DoS via XPath Transform

The SimpleSAMLphp SAML2 library is a PHP library for SAML2 related functionality. In 4.19.2 and 4.20.2, the library permits attacker-controlled XPath transforms while processing XML signatures in specially crafted SAML messages. XPath evaluation can consume uncontrolled processing resources, allowing a remote unauthenticated attacker to deny service to any entity relying on SimpleSAMLphp or directly on the SAML2 library. The mitigation limits the number of transforms, permits only transform algorithms identified by the SAML 2.0 Core specification, and specifically rejects XPath transforms. This issue is fixed in versions 4.19.3 and 4.20.3.

SimpleSAMLphp HTTP-Artifact TLS validator confusion allows cross-IdP authentication bypass

The SimpleSAMLphp SAML2 library is a PHP library for SAML2 related functionality. Prior to versions 4.19.3, 4.20.2, 5.0.6, and 6.2.1, the HTTPArtifact::receive() flow can treat an unsigned embedded SAML Response as cryptographically valid for the wrong identity provider. SOAPClient::addSSLValidator() attaches a TLS-based validator to the outer SOAP ArtifactResponse, while the embedded Response receives a validator that delegates to the outer message and is later checked against metadata selected from the embedded response issuer rather than necessarily the artifact issuer. SOAPClient::validateSSL() returns normally when the TLS public key doe

SimpleSAMLphp SP accepts a response from an unexpected IdP when unsigned `Response/InResponseTo` is combined with a signed assertion lacking `SubjectConfirmationData/InResponseTo`

SimpleSAMLphp versions before 1.18.6 contain an information disclosure vulnerability. Prior to 2.4.7 and 2.5.2, SimpleSAMLphp's SAML SP ACS path does not enforce the IdP selected for an SP-initiated login when unsigned Response/InResponseTo is combined with a signed assertion lacking SubjectConfirmationData/InResponseTo, allowing a response issued by one trusted IdP to be bound to SP state created for another IdP and bypass flows that route users to a specific IdP, including deployments that set enable_unsolicited to false. This issue is fixed in versions 2.4.7 and 2.5.2.

SimpleSAMLphp SAML2 library has incorrect signature verification for HTTP-Redirect binding

The SimpleSAMLphp SAML2 library is a PHP library for SAML2 related functionality. Prior to versions 4.17.0 and 5.0.0-alpha.20, there is a signature confusion attack in the HTTPRedirect binding. An attacker with any signed SAMLResponse via the HTTP-Redirect binding can cause the application to accept an unsigned message. Versions 4.17.0 and 5.0.0-alpha.20 contain a fix for the issue.

SimpleSAMLphp SAML2 has an XXE in parsing SAML messages

SimpleSAMLphp SAML2 library is a PHP library for SAML2 related functionality. When loading an (untrusted) XML document, for example the SAMLResponse, it's possible to induce an XXE. This vulnerability is fixed in 4.6.14 and 5.0.0-alpha.18.

    Cross-site scripting in SimpleSAMLphp

Cross-site scripting in SimpleSAMLphp before version 1.18.4. The www/erroreport.php script allows error reports to be submitted and sent to the system administrator. Starting with SimpleSAMLphp 1.18.0, a new SimpleSAML\Utils\EMail class was introduced to handle sending emails, implemented as a wrapper of an external dependency. This new wrapper allows us to use Twig templates in order to create the email sent with an error report. Since Twig provides automatic escaping of variables, manual escaping of the free-text field in www/errorreport.php was removed to avoid double escaping. However, for those not using the new user interface yet, an em

    Log injection in SimpleSAMLphp

Log injection in SimpleSAMLphp before version 1.18.4. The www/erroreport.php script, which receives error reports and sends them via email to the system administrator, did not properly sanitize the report identifier obtained from the request. This allows an attacker, under specific circumstances, to inject new log lines by manually crafting this report ID. When configured to use the file logging handler, SimpleSAMLphp will output all its logs by appending each log line to a given file. Since the reportID parameter received in a request sent to www/errorreport.php was not properly sanitized, it was possible to inject newline characters into it

    CVE-2019-3465

Rob Richards XmlSecLibs, all versions prior to v3.0.3, as used for example by SimpleSAMLphp, performed incorrect validation of cryptographic signatures in XML messages, allowing an authenticated attacker to impersonate others or elevate privileges by creating a crafted XML message.

  9. CVE-2018-7711

    High · CVSS 8.1EPSS 1.19%Fix available

    CVE-2018-7711

HTTPRedirect.php in the saml2 library in SimpleSAMLphp before 1.15.4 has an incorrect check of return values in the signature validation utilities, allowing an attacker to get invalid signatures accepted as valid by forcing an error during validation. This occurs because of a dependency on PHP functionality that interprets a -1 error code as a true boolean value.

  10. CVE-2018-7644

    High · CVSS 7.5EPSS 1.25%Fix available

    CVE-2018-7644

The XmlSecLibs library as used in the saml2 library in SimpleSAMLphp before 1.15.3 incorrectly verifies signatures on SAML assertions, allowing a remote attacker to construct a crafted SAML assertion on behalf of an Identity Provider that would pass as cryptographically valid, thereby allowing them to impersonate a user from that Identity Provider, aka a key confusion issue.

  11. CVE-2017-18122

    High · CVSS 8.1EPSS 1.09%Fix available

    CVE-2017-18122

A signature-validation bypass issue was discovered in SimpleSAMLphp through 1.14.16. A SimpleSAMLphp Service Provider using SAML 1.1 will regard as valid any unsigned SAML response containing more than one signed assertion, provided that the signature of at least one of the assertions is valid. Attributes contained in all the assertions received will be merged and the entityID of the first assertion received will be used, allowing an attacker to impersonate any user of any IdP given an assertion signed by the targeted IdP.
